Our customer located in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking an Engineer Supplier Quality Development on a direct hire basis.
The salary range for this position is dependent upon level of experience.
Job Introduction
Plans, supports, and implements supplier quality programs to improve the quality of products purchased. Evaluates, selects, and develops supply base and assesses new supplier technology to obtain maximum quality and productivity levels. Formulates and/or assists in formulating internal/external supplier quality control policies and procedures, and development of quality standards. Ensures supply base compliance to Corporate Quality standards. Serves as a technical liaison and coordinates activity of internal and external resources. Serves as a resource by providing a problem solving function by initiating action to overcome obstacles as they are encountered. Participates in quality planning during launch phase of new products. Champions continuous improvement efforts by leading supplier development projects / programs. Researches, recommends, and supports implementation of new and/or existing quality assurance processes of suppliers. Performs other duties as necessary. May supervise and/or provide work direction to other staff.
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
The following duties will be performed at both levels within the progression. At level I, work is primarily routine and focused on daily workflow requirements that involve detailed engineering assignments including calculations and relatively standard tests. Guidance is provided either by instruction received on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions; or in the form of independently evaluating, selecting, and applying established and well-defined engineering techniques, procedures, policies or systems. Decisions involve limited risk to the organization. Primarily involves entry through intermediate level work.
At level II, work is moderately complex and difficult in character and requires program/project management skills. Functioning as a highly competent engineer, work requires independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard company procedures and translation of technical guidance from higher level personnel into data applicable to the particular assignment. Decisions involve moderate risk to the organization although results may have a long-lasting impact. Primarily involves intermediate through advanced level work, moving toward complete technical competency and mastery of the field.
At level III, work requires independent problem solving and decision making with general direction given on project objectives. Work is complex, difficult in character and requires strong technical and broad business knowledge in addition to program/project management skills. Functioning with full competency/mastery of work areas, exercises considerable latitude in determining specific project objectives and approaches to assignments. Decisions often involve substantial risk to the organization with potential for long-lasting results. Primarily involves senior/advanced level work and supervises other multifunctional staff (e.g. Tactical, Strategic, and Launch SQA).
1.) Performing quality systems and process assessments of potential electrical component suppliers and leading supplier development activities.
2.) Supporting the sourcing process by pro-actively identifying and assessing potential/series suppliers, participating in internal and external technical reviews with supplier and engineering.
3.) Leading APQP and PPAP activities for all Electrical Components, conducting on-site assessments to verify effectiveness of process/quality control methods and series production readiness.
4.) Actively driving continuous improvement activities, initiating and following up on corrective actions.
5.) Actively participating in the change management process and leading the certification of new component versions or manufacturing process changes.
6.) Teaming up with Engineering, Purchasing, Suppliers, and Customers to harmonize discrepancies in product specifications and evaluate cost reduction or quality improvement opportunities.
7.) Plans, supports, and implements supplier quality programs in conjunction Magna Electronic goals and objectives. Defines scope, plans, organizes, leads and directs technical work and departmental efforts related to quality engineering activities to improve the quality of products purchased by the Company.
Required Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, or Mechanical).
Required Work Experience
• Level I
1.) Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical).
2.) At least 3 years previous experience in Supplier Quality.
3.) Knowledge of Semiconductor, Electronics / Electromechanical manufacturing processes.
4.) Experienced in supplier evaluation and development, continuous quality improvement, and open issues management.
5.) Solid understanding of APQP/PPAP, Process Control Plan, SPC, GD&T, Corrective Actions Processes; PFMEA, GR&R, working knowledge of TS16949 and ISO 9001:2000 methodologies.
6.) Hands on mentality with a proactive approach to identify and avoid problems in an early stage.
7.) Experience in root cause analysis and problem solving methods.
8.) Strong technical, engineering and communication skills in an global automotive environment.
9.) Solid organizational and project management skills and demonstrated effectiveness to lead and collaborate with cross-functional / global teams.
10.) Strong drive to complete assignments on time in order to ensure flawless series production launches.
11.) Flexibility to travel up to 30% (national / international).
• Level II (in addition to above requirements)
1.) Prefer 3 years of experience in Semiconductor, Electronics / Electromechanical manufacturing processes.
2.) Demonstrated ability to work on long-term assignments, broad in nature, using a high level of originality and ingenuity. Must be able to work independently with some latitude for unreviewed action or decision.
3.) Demonstrated ability to lead and manage several large and complex projects simultaneously. Must have experience with past project financial responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others through support, training, etc.
4.) Demonstrated ability to thoroughly research, recommend, and oversee implementation of new products, materials, processes, etc. and presents information. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to exercise influence at various levels and functions.
• Level III (in addition to above requirements)
1.) Minimum 8 years of progressive professional level experience with technical expertise in functional area and full competency/mastery of work area.
2.) Strong leadership skills. Must be able to work independently with considerable latitude for unreviewed action.
3.) Excellent communication / negotiation skills with peers and suppliers in a positive, cooperative way and maintain productive relationships with key functional areas. Must be able to manage staff toward interdepartmental goals.
