Description of Services
Successful candidate shall provide chocardiograms utilizing ultrasonic equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate and record pertinent anatomical, pathological and functional data.
General Scope of Work
• Use of non-invasive procedures to examine heart valves, chambers and blood vessels to produce images known as echocardiograms (ECGs).
• Perform imaging and non-imaging cardiovascular evaluations which may include exercise tolerance tests, Holter monitoring, event recorders, electrocardiograms, stress tests, and transesophageal echocardiography Communicating ultrasound results to the physician or nurse in charge of patient care.
• Obtains patient history, explains procedures to patient, addresses patients’ concerns, and follows established pre-screening policy and procedure. Ultrasound room sterilization.
• Determines appropriate methodology and techniques to use; arranges immobilization and/or support devices for proper patient positioning; selects appropriate imaging device.
• Prepares patient for echocardiography procedures, positions patient as appropriate for prescribed procedure, and assists patients at completion of procedure.
Specific Tasks
• Prepares for examinations by checking equipment and inventorying and restocking supplies; reviewing patient schedules; reading physician orders for specific examinations; setting-up recording equipment; entering patient information into system.
• Reduces patient anxieties by explaining procedures; answering questions; providing assistance to examination table or treadmill.
• Prepares patients by positioning patient; spreading gels; attaching electrodes to chest and equipment; adjusting equipment controls; verifying wave signals.
• Obtains quality images by positioning and repositioning transducer; monitoring display screen; listening to signals; adjusting equipment for beam strength and focus; detecting artifacts that mimic abnormalities; recording images.
• Records examination information by printing graphics and data; calculating measurements of heart wall, chamber size, and blood flow direction and velocity; comparing measurements to norms.
• Protects patients by adhering to safety policies and protocols.
• Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches.
• Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
• Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
• Prepares facilities in accordance with procedural requirements; calibrates equipment as required by the institution.
• Monitors the patient’s physical condition during the course of the procedure; report patient change of status or emergency situations to clinical staff, supervisor and/or cardiologist.
• Maintain accurate patient documentation, including computerized documentation.
• Troubleshoot equipment and document errors or equipment malfunctions; escalate issues and concerns to engineer, supervisor, and/or cardiologist.
• Responsible for performing tasks that are within the scope of his/her educational preparation, knowledge, and permitted by the policies and procedures of Supplemental Health Care, and other local, state, and federal guidelines; and the policies of the facility requesting the services.
Experience/Knowledge
• Skilled professional with a solid foundation in Echocardiography.
• RDMS with ECHO and Vascular experience.
• Experience in vascular studies, stress testing, holter monitoring and scanning is preferred.
• Maintenance of current Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for HealthCare Workers or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification for HealthCare workers.
• Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.
• Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional.
• Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members.
• Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.
• Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
• Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology.
Education/Certifications:
• Graduate of formal Echocardiography program preferred.
• Certified as an Ultrasound Sonographer or eligible to sit for the certifications exam within 6 months of employment.
• BLS required. ACLS preferred. CCT certification preferred.
