Position Description:
The Public Relations Coordinator will support the Competitor Group, Inc. (CGI) marketing department's communications efforts by assuming responsibility for a range of projects involving media relations, external communications, grassroots outreach and social media, among other tactics to drive growth and support key event-related objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and create story angles, pitch them to various media outlets and generate publicity results surrounding Rock n’ Roll Marathon Series events.
- Write press materials of all kinds, including releases, alerts, message point documents and more.
- Cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets to proactively pitch active lifestyle stories related to CGI brands and aggressively respond to inquiries and information requests.
- Organize press events and interface with the media at CGI events. Track media coverage and develop media guides, press kits, coverage reports and event-specific recap documents.
- Various duties onsite at events and within the marketing department that are not necessarily public relations related.
Qualifications:
•A minimum of 3 years public relations/media experience.
•Excellent communications and writing skills.
•Ability to work independently to creatively plan, develop and pitch story ideas.
•Must be a superior writer and strategic thinker, with the capacity to follow-through on long-range plans while managing emerging news.
•Must have the ability to wear many hats (multitasking) and be savvy in social media and new media.
•Excellent relationship building skills, both internal and external.
•Prior experience working with traditional media (TV, radio and print) or a public relations firm is required.
•Degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field preferred.
