Experience Required:
2+ years of PACU or ICU experience OR 4+ years current Emergency Department experience
Demonstrable experience as a critical thinker to quickly recognize any change in a patient’s condition
Thorough knowledge of anesthesia and its effects on patients
Experience using the instruments and equipment needed to monitor the patient
Thorough knowledge of pain medications and proficiency in administering them
Experience caring for a patient with postoperative nausea and vomiting
Education Required:
Associates Degree in Nursing (ASN) from an accredited school of nursing
Education Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited school of nursing
Licensure Required:
Active RN License, unencumbered
Certifications Required:
AHA-BLS
AHA-ACLS
Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced RN to join our PACU team. The PACU is a vital part of our hospital as we provide care for patients recovering from general or regional anesthesia.
The PACU RN is a key part of the care team, serving to stabilize and transition the patient after a surgery or procedure.
Some of your essential job functions include: Initial and ongoing assessment of patient vital signs Respiratory/Airway management, type of artificial airway, oxygen saturation; Administering medication, parenteral fluids and treatment per physician orders; Monitoring and assessing the patient’s condition throughout postoperative period and reporting any unusual symptoms, occurrences or discrepancies to supervisor, anesthesiologist and physician; Treating symptoms of postoperative nausea and vomiting (or PONV); Managing post-operative pain; Monitoring surgical site(s) for excessive bleeding, discharge, swelling, hematoma, etc.; Hemodynamic monitoring and interpretation
