Exciting opportunities exist for individuals to join a progressive non-profit organization as Child and Youth Workers, Special Education Facilitators, and Summer Students.

The positions entail working within Strive Centre’s team, supporting children and youth with diverse abilities including developmental disabilities, FASD, Autism, behavioural obstacles, anxiety disorders, and other, in group and one to one capacities.

The successful candidates possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, establishes and maintains rapport with clients, analyzes and resolves problems, encourages and motivates clients to participate in programs, completes proper documentation of client’s progress, provides personal care on occasion and attends staff meetings.

Shifts available are:
Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm (Child and Youth Worker)
Monday to Friday 9am to 3pm (Special Education Facilitator)

Job Duties Includes:

• Demonstrate effective computer skills
• Ability to act with integrity and trust, helps to build a healthy team environment, communicates clearly, fosters potential in others, and acts as a positive role model.
• Ability to create a fun supportive environment and help build confidence
• Ability to adapt programs to meet individual needs
• Knowledgeable of creating independence vs. creating dependence
• Completing daily documentation on a Microsoft platform database
• Able to set firm boundaries
• Positive can do attitude
• Some behavior management
• Ability to encourage, motivate and involve client in community activities.
• Access to computer and internet
• Proven ability to develop rapport with adults in a variety of contexts.
• Ability to communicate effectively (both verbally and in writing) with educational personnel, social workers and resource workers, service providers and partners
• Able to self-start, make judgment calls, and create new models/programs as needed
• Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment

Job Requirements Include:

Child and Youth Worker:
• Certificate/Diploma in human services field or subject related to the Strive Centre.
• Minimum two years’ recent experience supporting children/youth with severe behavioural challenges and complex diagnoses.

Special Education Facilitator:
• Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation, Children & Youth Work, Social Service, Community Support, or other related human/social service field.
• Minimum three years’ experience in comparable setting.
• One (1) year of supervisory experience an asset.

Additional Requirements:
• Criminal record clearance
• Prior contact check
• TB test clearance
• Three (3) employment references
• Valid BCDL and reliable vehicle to use for work purposes
• Current First Aid CPR Certificate
• Food Safe Certification an asset
• NVCI/MANDT Certification an asset

Compensation:
$17.44/hr, plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements for Child and Youth Workers
$21.43/hr, plus benefits upon meeting eligibility requirements for Special Education Facilitators
