Our Plymouth, MI customer is seeking (2) Application Engineers (Bearings) (1 is experienced with 3+ years in bearings & the other is an entry level position with knowledge of bearings) for a direct hire positions at a salary range of $50,000-$75,000 (E/L would be on the lower side of the scale). Relocation is available. No sponsorship or OPT candidates.
Summary/Purpose
This position will offer the opportunity to demonstrate strong engineering skills while conducting bearing analysis, failure investigation, statistics and other design related activities using a variety of calculation methods and computer modeling programs to select suitable bearings to meet customer requirements.
Provide technical application proposals which include bearing selections, bearing analysis and test planning and installation recommendations to meet customer requirements.
Coordination and/or execution of project assignments that support (directly or indirectly) major tactics in the Corporate Business Plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead/execute the analysis of complex bearing systems as well as prepare and present comprehensive customer proposals to support the corporate marketing effort and achievement of business plan tactics.
• Determine the feasibility of and provide approval for the use of company designs/products in customer applications.
• Collect customer requirements and inputs, conduct a thorough application review and communicate results to sales and to customers.
• Application review will include but is not limited to: life analysis, stress analysis, interface checks and guidance on how to properly apply company products, fitting practices, backing needs, dimensional checks and test recommendations.
• Develop test plans, review/analyze test results and create final test reports to support the validation of product proposals.
• Develop technical expertise in the use of application tools and techniques for analyzing bearing systems.
• Lead/provide failure analysis, root cause analysis and problem solving of internal testing, customer testing or application field issues.
• Lead/provide product improvements and cost reductions.
• Support the development of new products and technologies.
• Share broad knowledge of interdisciplinary aspects of bearing application technology with colleagues, render assistance as necessary to technicians and other engineering staff, update supervision and generally assist in providing answers to inquiries from sources inside and outside the company.
• Support global company resources in arriving at the best corporate solution to a particular problem or opportunity.
• Adapt emerging technology to enhance application engineering capabilities and services.
• Strive to continuously improve the execution of the aforementioned responsibilities as a key part of a broader commitment to personal development and growth.
• Conduct technical training as needed
• The Entry Level employee will be shadowing the experienced AE, so there will be a six-month training period prior to the initial assignment
Education and Experience:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering is required
• Minimum of 3 years of Bearing Experience is required for the experienced AE; for the entry level looking for some knowledge in bearings.
• Automotive experience is highly preferred
• Familiarity/training in formalized problem solving methodologies (Red X, DOE, etc.).
• Experience with Failure analysis, Product Testing, DFMEA/PFMEA processes, measurement system analysis and interpretation knowledge
• Strong project management skills
• Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external customers
• Self-starter with willingness to learn new applications and analysis techniques

Essential Duties and Accountabilities:
• Routine interaction with automotive manufacturers, including international and service entities. Collect and clarify customer requirements and inputs.
• Be an active member of the project team. Analyze steering systems feasibility as well as prepare and present comprehensive customer proposals. Organize review with HQ in Japan and the company’s customers as necessary to assure the development of designs that meet or exceed expectations, safety and timing at the lowest cost.
• Review will include but is not limited to: Life analysis, stress analysis, interface checks, packaging study, dimensional checks, 3D models preparation, drawings, bill of materials, engineering specifications, test plans, test results analysis, final test reports, new products improvements (i.e. VE/VA).
• Participate and assist in, prototype/pilot product design, build, and testing (DV, PV, etc.) to ensure that the customer’s expectations are met and/or exceeded.
• In charge of providing approval for the use of company designs/products in customer applications.
• Use APQP tools such as DFMEA, DRBFM, DVP&R, Design review and other tools.
• Use in house design tools, as well as industry standard CAD and CAE software.
• Provide technical support on the product within the company to the other group (Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing etc.)
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics.
