Job Description:
The Vehicle Engineer provides professional engineering expertise in the oversight of FTA-funded major capital transit projects. The Vehicle Engineer reviews project sponsors’ plans pertaining to vehicle acquisition and vehicle types as well as fleet management plans and other supporting documentation to ensure that projects are being built safely, on budget, on schedule, within scope, and in conformance with applicable regulations and guidelines. The individual serves as a technical resource and subject matter expert in the area of transit vehicles.
Job Requirements:
• Minimum 10 years of experience with vehicles (rail or bus) and expertise in the following elements:
o Vehicle design including preparation of design criteria, vehicle analysis and vehicle specifications, or
o Vehicle procurement (e.g. writing a vehicle procurement plan, Request for Proposal (RFP), evaluation, and award), or Project management for a vehicle builder
• Must have a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree Engineering or related field
• Demonstrated experience with Americans with Disability Act (ADA) requirements for transit vehicles
• Professional Registration/Certification is desirable but not required
