CONTROLLER/ VP FINANCE

Must Haves for the Ideal Candidate:
1. Minimum of 5 years of senior financial leadership experience in a retail environment, with at least 10 years of corporate finance/accounting and/or public accounting experience.
2. Possess an expert’s command of accounting principles and rules. Must have experience closing the books and be an expert in GAAP. This includes, but is not limited to, financial reporting (SEC reporting experience required), general accounting, accounts payable and receivable, credit, sales audit, and inventory accounting.
3. Experience successfully developing and implementing a total systems approach to understanding the integration of end-to-end company operations and technology.
4. Demonstrated leadership and people development skills, with excellence in coaching, counselling, motivating and managing high-performing teams of employees.
5. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or similar area of study. MBA or other advanced degree preferred. Current CPA certification required.

Position Overview:
Our client is a retailer with retail locations and e-commerce sales, as well as wholesale distribution. Reporting to the CFO, the Controller/ VP Finance is responsible for the day to day accounting operations of the company. This includes but is not limited to: financial reporting and analysis, general accounting, accounts payable and receivable, credit, sales audit, and inventory accounting.

Responsibilities:
• Produces and files all SEC reports. Works with outside auditors and other consultants as necessary.
• Oversees Internal Financial Reporting to include monthly financial closing, produce, distribute and present P&L reports with actual results and comparisons, explanations to last year and budget.
• Manage the accounting department associates and functions to include Accounting, General Ledger, Inventory, Sales, Gross Margin, Markdowns, Shrink, Accounts Payable, Expense Payable, and Accounts Receivable.
• Applies a systems approach to problem solving, data analysis and solution development.
• Manages the company’s accounting and reporting systems to efficiently produce financial statements and analysis of results.
• Seeks continuous improvement in the processes and procedures in place in the company.

Requirements:
• At least 5 years of senior financial leadership experience in a retail environment
• At least 10 years of finance and public accounting experience
• Ability to prepare and present complex analyses and reports.
• Excellent computer skills, including demonstrated advanced knowledge of Excel.

Education & Certification:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or similar area of study. MBA or other advanced degree preferred. Current CPA certification required.
