150446 Application Engineer (Steering)
Our customer located in Plymouth, MI is seeking an experienced Application Engineer (Steering) on a direct hire basis.
The salary range for this position is $50,000/year to $75,000/year, depending on level of experience. Relocation is available.

Summary / Purpose
This position will provide support in the Technical Center as the EPS (Electrical Power Steering) workload increases.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Routine interaction with automotive manufacturers, including international and service entities. Collect and clarify customer requirements and inputs.
• Be an active member of the project team. Analyze steering systems feasibility as well as prepare and present comprehensive customer proposals. Organize review with HQ in Japan and the company’s customers as necessary to assure the development of designs that meet or exceed expectations, safety and timing at the lowest cost.
• Review will include but is not limited to: life analysis, stress analysis, interface checks, packaging study, dimensional checks, 3D models preparation, drawings, bill of materials, engineering specifications, test plans, test results analysis, final test reports, new products improvements (i.e. VA/VE).
• Participate and assist in prototype / pilot product design, build, and testing (DV, PV, etc.) to ensure that the customer’s expectations are met and/or exceeded.
• In charge of providing approval for the use of company designs / products in customer applications.
• Use APQP tools such as DFMEA, DRBFM, DVP&R, Design Review, and other tools.
• Use in house design tools, as well as industry standard CAD and CAE software.
• Provide technical support on the product within company to other groups (Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, etc.).
Education / Experience
• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics.
• Ideally some knowledge in automotive development and application of steering or chassis system (ex: SAE), especially EPS systems.
• Good analytical skills in order to analyze and predict steering system behavior.
• Good communication skills to work directly with suppliers, customers, and internal departments.
• Proficient in using computers with the Windows operating system, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Access skills are a plus.
Other Information
• Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 20% to 40% of time. The travel will depend on the program. If working on a global program, it will involve international travel to Japan and Europe as well as manufacturing facilities here in North America.
• Work is mostly performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, and with substantial time spent working on a computer. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
• The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.
