Capitol Recruiters Inc. is recruiting for a Staff Accountant/Senior Accounting Clerk for a prominent law firm client in Washington, DC.
This is a varied position responsible for supporting the Accounting Department with varied duties. Responsibilities include assisting with payroll, taxes and government reporting, month-end processing, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
Duties include:
Payroll:
Entering payroll hours on a semi-monthly basis
Coordinating accuracy of benefits deductions with HR.
Coordinating SmartBenefits program with payroll
Entering demographic and salary data in payroll software
Transmitting data regarding 401k deferrals and loan repayments after every payroll
Entering payroll journal entries
Preparing check requests for payroll withholdings
Processing payroll in compliance with state and federal regulations
Processing termination and other manual check requests
Taxes and Government Reporting
Assisting with the preparation and filing of other taxes: DC Personal Property Tax; DC Sales and Use Tax; DC Ballpark Tax; 1099’s; etc.
Assist in other government reporting as needed
Sending clients signed W-9’s when requested
Month-end Processing
Gathering, entering, and verifying soft-cost entries Such as fax and copies and long distance
Secretarial overtime
Ensuring all batches are finalized
Run balancing reports and balance the system
Accounts Receivable
Process bank deposits daily
Apply client payments daily
Generate reports when needed
Accounts Payable
Ensure the maintenance and current updates of vendor information.
Review Accounts Payable
Perform back-up activities as required
Position Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting
3-5 years of accounting experience required.
Experience working in law firm accounting a plus.
Knowledge of basic accounting concepts and understanding of general and subsidiary ledgers concepts
Proficiency with MS Office and Excel required, understanding of database systems and table structures is highly desirable.
Prior payroll experience ideal.
Salary commensurate with experience 50k 60k; generous employee benefits offered.
