Position Title Environmental Test Lab Technician - Coatings - WI #2746

The Environmental Test Lab Technician will conduct performance testing of coated panels and/or parts as specified by customer requirements and internationally recognized testing standards. In this role, the Test Lab Technician directly supports the Environmental Test Lab Manager and further supports research and development efforts, as well as customer test requests initiated through sales and/or laboratory personnel. Test reports must be accurate and easily retrievable. The Test Lab Technician will also make suggestions for process improvements of laboratory testing procedures to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Prepare, log and evaluate laboratory requests for accelerated weathering and other environmental testing as related to the coatings industry
Routine testing includes salt spray exposures (e.g.,ASTM B117), cyclic corrosion exposures (e.g., GMW 14872), accelerated ultraviolet exposures (e.g., ASTM G154), full-spectrum simulated sunlight exposures (e.g.,ASTM G155, SAE J2527), natural weathering exposures (e.g.,South Florida, Arizona, etc.) and various physical tests related to coating performance and durability (e.g.,pencil hardness, impact resistance, chemical resistance, adhesion, flexibility, etc.).
Prepare test reports for all findings using standard templates, making format and/or content improvements when necessary
Daily maintenance, operation and calibration of accelerated weathering equipment (e.g.,corrosion chambers, xenon arc weathering chambers, UV weathering testers, humidity cabinets, etc.)
Read, interpret and apply paint performance specifications and engineering standards (e.g.,ASTM, ISO, AAMA, SAE, IEEE, etc.)
Seek improvements of current testing and record-keeping methods

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Preferred education level: A college degree in a natural sciences discipline (e.g.,chemistry, biology, etc.)
Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment preferred, with three months or more experience with laboratory testing methods
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel
Excellent communication skills
Meticulous attention to detail
Willing to work in a team environment
Ability to receive and provide instructions in a positive manner
Ability to travel occasionally ( 10%)
Ability to move/lift up to 50 lbs.
