Under general direction of the Director, Health Information Management, and with limited supervision, the Coding Compliance Specialist is primarily responsible the development, implementation and maintenance of an effective compliance program related to the documentation and coding of medical records within the scope of the Health Information Management Department.
The Coding Compliance Specialist will be expected to assist in the development of policies and procedures, perform audits and educate peers to build an effective compliance structure that will provide guidelines to detect, correct, and prevent coding errors.
Responsibilities include:
Assist the HIM Compliance Committee in the ongoing maintenance of the HIM Compliance Program that is consistent with guidelines set forth by the OIG and other regulatory agencies.
Provides ongoing education to support the department compliance program for staff, physicians and ancillary departments as needed.
Provides monitoring and auditing functions as determined by HIM Compliance Committee.
Contributes to the efficient operation of the HIM department.
Maintains confidentiality of patient information.
Bachelor preferred, Associate considered in Health Information management or Health Care Field. CCS required. CPC recommended. 5+ years inpatient hospital coding required with supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, ICD-9 and ICD-10, and coding and billing regulations required. CPT-4 experience recommended. Must be computer literate with Microsoft Office expertiese - Word and Excel. Ability to work with minimal supervision at a high level of productivity. Familiarity with EHR systems: 3M, Epic preferred.
