Senior Underwriter Consumer Loans needed! Job #2828

Provides quality underwriting through timely and thorough evaluation of consumer, home equity and small business loan applications. The primary focus will be on indirect loan applications. Approves or rejects loans within limit of authority. Communicates directly with automotive dealer employees on loan decisions and program guidelines.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
* Analyzes loan applications, credit bureau reports, collateral evaluation, member account data, financial statements, tax returns and other loan documentation in order to make consistent, sound lending decisions on consumer, home equity and smaller member business loans.
* Communicates directly with dealer employees on loan decisions and negotiates with them on stipulated loan decisions to mitigate the risk associated with the application. Clearly explains reasons for stipulating or denying the loan request.
* Effectively educates dealer employees on indirect program guidelines and strengthens dealer relationships through regular verbal and written communication.
* Maintains higher credit authority and decisions larger or more complicated loans.
* Maintains loan approval portfolio delinquency and charge-off ratios within established standards.
* Meets or exceeds the loan production standards established for reviewing loans that fall into the consumer underwriting review queue.
* Maintains an acceptable level of quality as determined by established loan error standards.
* Reviews, evaluates and properly documents decisions on loan applications within the established decision response standards
* Assists with underwriting other Consumer Loan products as needed.
Education and Training:
High School plus additional course work gained through attendance at vocational, technical or business school or equivalent experience.
Prior Experience:
5 to 7 years prior experience in consumer lending underwriting with full approval/denial authority. including a minimum of 2 years underwriting indirect loans through indirect dealers.
Interpersonal Skills:
Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are often difficult or stressful in nature. Contact with others involves complex, detailed and often sensitive topics. The job requires a high degree of interpersonal skills to deal with a range of complicated problem situations. Interactions involve gaining the agreement of others.
Other Special Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates strong consumer and credit knowledge, policy/procedures expertise and analytical abilities.
Ability to thoroughly analyze financial statements, credit bureau reports and other financial data and document findings.
Knowledge of automated underwriting tools and related technology.
Knowledge of and ability to apply consumer lending criteria, products, rates, processes, procedures, policies, and regulations.
Knowledge of government regulations and compliance issues.
Knowledge of credit bureau terminology.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, while working with customers (internal and/or external, as appropriate) to ensure complete understanding and comprehension of the intent and content of the communication.
BOTTOM-LINE REQUIREMENTS: (Candidates must answer)
