Education Consultant,IN Center for Deaf & Hard of Hearing Education at State of Indiana, Dept of Health in Evansville, IN

The position acts as an Education Consultant who provides direct and facilitative services to children, families, early intervention agencies, and school districts through the Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education’s Southwest Indiana location (Evansville). This position works as a leader in Southwest Indiana along with one other State-employed staff member (Audiologist) to enhance the likelihood of successful outcomes for children/students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This position also collaborates with CDHHE staff at the Central location for continuity of services and to assure that programming is aligned with the CDHHE Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan. This position reports to the CDHHE School-Age Coordinator.

Responsibilities:

Provides direct services to children/students in field of expertise.
Assists audiologist with audiology assessments as needed
Acts as a primary regional contact for the CDHHE for parents, school districts, and professionals to field questions and provide direction as to next steps
Works with CDHHE central office trans-disciplinary assessment team as needed
Works with school districts within southwest IN, upon request, to support students through making recommendations related to effective assessment, placement, determination of services, and ancillary support
Assists in recruitment of local/regional provider recruitment to provide early intervention and school-age services as needed as well as participate on committees and task forces
Works with Indiana Council of Administrators of Special Education (ICASE) roundtables in southwest Indiana
Connect with local and regional resources to get word out about local/regional CDHHE resource and maximize available resources (SPOEs, ICASE Round Tables)
Participates, upon invitation, in Case Conference Committee meetings
Conducts in-services and presentations
Completes special projects as assigned by the School-age Coordinator
Coordinates and participates in, as appropriate, local/regional parent education offerings, play groups and sign language classes
Provides unbiased comprehensive information to families regarding communication choices/opportunities and technologies in a respectful and culturally-competent manner.
Shares resources for children who are deaf and hard of hearing with parents, professionals, and agencies in southwest Indiana
Collaborates with Vocational Rehabilitation and higher education Disability Coordinators within southwest IN for effective transition programming from high school to post-secondary education and/or employment
Assists School Age Coordinator to connect school corporations within southwest IN to resources, local initiatives, and planning related to transition
Assists School Age Coordinator to collect educational outcome data in order to provide analysis and trending information to the agency executive and senior management
Adheres to CDHHE Vision, Mission, and Guiding Principles
Other duties as assigned
Preferred Experience:

Bachelors Degree from an accredited college in Deaf Education, Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or related field; graduate degree preferred. Indiana State professional license or immediately eligibility for licensure in professional field of Speech-Language Pathology, Audiology, or Education

Strong educational experience with children who are deaf or hard of hearing is important regardless of the field of study
Indiana State professional license or immediately eligibility for licensure in professional field
Expert knowledge and skills in language development (e.g. including American Sign Language [ASL]) and Listening and Spoken Language [LSL]) and access to language and to academic instruction, Indiana Academic Standards, assessment of academic skills and knowledge, auditory and visual access strategies and technologies, and adult learning strategies is desired
Strong commitment to child/student-focused services with an emphasis on assisting students, families and schools with outcomes, goals, and objectives that can be part of a student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
Ability to support all communication choices, adhere to the CDHHE Vision, Mission, Values, and Guiding Principles and the ability to work well with a range of people
