Position: Microbiologist//Assay Development Scientist
Location: 21 Davis Drive Research Triangle Park NC 27709 United States
Duration: 6+ Months Contract
The candidate will be experienced in microbiological techniques.
Preferably, the candidate will have experience working in a food microbiology lab preparing and analyzing food and environmental samples.
The incumbent will work with a team of scientists using prototype instrumentation as well as standard methods of analysis.
The project will be fast-paced, require attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
Responsibilities
• Growing and maintaining bacterial cultures.
• Preparing media.
• Making streak plates and enumerating cultures.
• Preparing food samples for enrichment.
• Identifying isolates by FDA BAM or USDA MLG methods
• Identifying isolates by other rapid methods.
• Thorough documentation of work, including keeping track of numerous samples.
• General lab duties, including cleaning, organizing, and keeping supplies up-to-date.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science or other related discipline.
• 2-5 years of experience performing microbiological techniques, ideally 1+ year in a commercial food microbiology lab.
• Must have experience working in a biosafety cabinet and must have knowledge of biosafety procedures and aseptic technique.
• Must be comfortable working with Biosafety Level 2 (BSL2) pathogens such as Listeria, Salmonella and E. coli.
• Must be willing and able to use prototype instrumentation (training provided).
• Must be proficient in Excel and must be able to communicate results clearly.
• Must be able to work independently on a fast-paced project.
