Maintenance Mechanic (Plastic Extrusion)

Job Description:

We are an industry leader in the manufacture of composite decking, deck railing and fencing products.
Machines in this facility include: lab sample extrusion line(s), lab mini injection molding machines, lab mills, shop weigh booths, manual and automated mixers, and extrusion machines. This position is hands-on with diverse and varied work tasks including welding /fabrication, diagnostics/repair of electrical, chillers, heat bands, basic repairs (see duties below), and the usual facility maintenance requirements
The Maintenance Technician must be mechanically inclined.

Essential Duties:
•The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.
•Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair all lab and production equipment to include: molding machines, mixers, extrusion machines, forklifts, floor scrubbers, etc.
•Working knowledge of motor controls, PLC drives, discrete control logic, and panel building.
•Responsibilities include: light hydraulics, pneumatics, metal fabrication, welding, forklift repair, electrical troubleshooting, basic wiring, and electrical repair.
•Daily duties include: forklift inspection, documentation, and repair if necessary, documentation on log sheets of all shift maintenance activity, work orders completed and are turned in for all assigned or emergency repairs completed.
•Perform preventative maintenance on all lab and production equipment as assigned.
•Addresses part requisition needs for timely repairs, reviews cost sensitive repairs and approval of purchase order requests with Site Manager.
•Ensure maintenance areas are kept clean throughout the facility.
•Interface regularly with Office, Lab, and Production supervision to review specific needs with regard to repairs, follow-up on repairs made, and janitorial issues.
•Follows Human Resource and Safety policies and programs. Conducts daily maintenance repairs within the standards of OSHA, NFPA, utilizing PPE as required, etc.
•Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
•Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
•Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
•Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
•Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
•Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
•Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
•Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Job Requirements:

•High school diploma or equivalent, with a minimum of 2-5 years of experience in Electro-Mechanical Maintenance in an industrial manufacturing environment is also required.
•Completion of a craft apprenticeship or craft training program a plus.
•Experience in a plastics industry environment preferred (mixing, extrusion, injection machines, chillers, heat bands, etc.)
•Ability to safety and legally operate company pick-up truck for use in maintaining the property and for running errands. Clean driving record.
•High level of experience includes: hydraulics, pneumatics, metal fabrication, welding, forklifts, strong electrical diagnostics, trouble shooting, wiring, repair, and forklift repair, etc.
•Excellent verbal and legible written communication skills as they pertain to dealing with and understanding employee machine malfunction concerns or issues, dealing with employee issues, documenting job progress in logs and in training or re-training staff members.
•Outstanding attendance, judgment, organizational, and problem solving skills.
•Thorough knowledge of OSHA, NFPA and other Safety Regulations, and in the frequent use of personal protective equipment. (HazCom, LockOut/TagOut, Respiratory and Electrical Safety, etc.)
•Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job.

Competitive pay: Starting $20 to $30/hr., however, depending upon prior experience in the plastics industry and comprehensive benefits package.
