Our Auburn Hills, MI customer is seeking (1) entry level & (1) experienced Simulation Engineer/Project Engineer (Simulation Processes; Glass Furnace/Open Space) for direct hire positions. Reports to the Director of Float Process Engineering. 1 position is a fresh-out graduate, and the other requires 5-10 years’ of experience.

Summary: Responsible for developing, maintaining, and operating CFD and other models associated primarily with Glass Melting Furnaces, but may expand to Tin Baths, Annealing Lehrs, and Bulk Material Flow.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the development of the company’s Furnace Simulation Capability (CFD)
• Work with Global Engineering, Global Manufacturing Excellence, and Regional Operational Excellence to develop and deploy a strategy to incorporate simulation activities into the company’s design and operational excellence processes
• Manage all aspects related to assigned portion of the projects
• Prepare equipment and system requirements including design as required, specifications, installation scopes of work and RFQs
• Will effectively implement mathematical simulation systems to support business and innovation needs
Requirements:
• Bachelors’ of Science Ceramic, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Degree is required; (will not consider a Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Engineering Technology Degrees). Advanced technical degree and/or glass fabrication experience is highly preferred
• 0-10 years’ of Furnace experience and Engineering experience is required. 1 position is a fresh-out grad and then the other position is 5-10 years’ of experience. Compatible to steel industry and/or construction industry (but not civil engineering) handling industrial projects such as: machinery, cement, & steel. This is a large flame burner / blast furnace (not combustion; engine or boiler related). Doesn’t want Teco as that is a supplier they cannot pull from.
• Experience in CFD modeling is required; The CFD software that is used at the company is Celsian, but more important is to have experience modeling glass furnaces. Another common software is from Glass Services. Preferred: experience in using CFD modeling to simulate glass melting systems.
• Preferred: Experience with Float Production. Basic understanding of furnaces.
• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision in a team environment
• Strong technical knowledge to design, specify, procure, install and commission systems
• Skilled to predict, recognize, and effectively solve problems and interferences
• Communicate effectively (verbal and written) within the department, regional, and global organizations. Fluent in English.
• Ability to drive results through influencing others without having direct authority
• Travel internationally when needed (likely 10%-15%), so needs valid Passport
