Product Development Engineer

Job Purpose Statement:
The Product Development Engineer functions in an Engineering Department comprised of a team of associates in which the rapid development of highly featured, high value products is required. The department is comprised of three sections: New Product Development, Sustaining Engineering, and Design Verification/Validation. New products are developed through concurrent engineering practices, requiring department members to understand critical inter-relationships between different departments. The ability to make sound design decisions based on product knowledge and manufacturing processes is key. The development staff is required to be self-motivated, working with minimal supervision, while achieving high quality end results.
Reporting Structure:
Reports to: Product Development Manager
Job Functions: Can act as Technical Development Lead in the design of fabricated, assembled, and purchased parts following the PEP Development Process.
• Lead the design development reviews with Designers, Manufacturing, Industrial Design, Quality, Service and Other stakeholders as needed. The reviews include concept/alternate designs, DFM/DFA, conduct FMEA’s and track progress of design and final acceptance.
• Development and creation of CAD solid models, utilizing Unigraphics, from product development knowledge and/or Design Team input.
• Mechanical Engineers with experience in injection molded part design is preferred.
• Development and creation of end-product drawings and specifications accurately defining requirements of design intent.
• Perform tolerance stack-up and analysis of components and assemblies, utilizing geometric tolerancing standards and practices.
• Develop or aid in developing Bill of Materials, inspection criteria, process specifications, and ECR/ECO documentation as necessary.

Job Qualification Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering course study.
Basic training in software programs used in the Engineering environment; MS Office, SAP, UG NX6, and CAX Teamcenter.
Ability to handle confidential information such as Industrial Design Engineering input, New Product Specifications, Research and Development data, and specifications.
Travel required approximately 5% of the time.
Knowledge:
Good communication and organizational skills. Candidate must take ownership of decisions made in the performance of duties.
Experience: 3-5 years experience in a development role is preferred
