POSITION DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Controls Engineer
Travel: 20% - 30% (based on project assignment)
Division: Engineering Department
Position Summary: Responsible for high quality electrical design work, accurate quoting, effective machine build supervision, start-up, debug and final commissioning of Hirata systems. Experience working in a manufacturing environment, automation, conveyor equipment, gauge equipment, robotic tooling, engine test equipment, etc. preferred. Supervision: Reports to the Controls Engineering Manager
Major Duties:
1. Responsible for the quality, cost effectiveness and timeliness of electrical
designs and control programs.
2. Meet quotation deadline requirements.
3. Support sales presentations.
a.Attend customer line up meetings.
b.Visit customer plants.
c.Participate in the development of sales presentation strategies and materials.
4. Review and completely understand customer requirements and specifications as required
a.Terms and conditions.
b.Plant and corporate specifications.
c.Preferred vendor listings.
d.Electrical Control drawings and specifications.
e.Project specific quotation requirements.
5. Develop conceptual control solutions and alternatives.
a.Process flow sequences and strategies.
b.Component layouts and distribution networks
c.Station concepts, including operating sequences, timing charts.
d.Material flow with system layouts and arrangements.
6. Sketches, drawings and motion sheets as required to document the above, direct CAD work and provide presentation materials.
7. Initiate internal electrical concept review and brainstorming meetings.
8. Obtain vendor quotations on critical equipment.
a.Develop technical specifications.
b.Identify qualified vendors.
c.Communicate with vendors via phone, fax and mail to provide
line-ups, develop alternative solutions, receive and clarify quotations.
9. Develop quotations and proposals as required
a.System and station descriptions.
b.Specification responses.
c.Price breakdowns.
d.Terms and conditions.
10.Identify and resolve problems.
a.Work with technical and commercial experts as required.
b.Obtain outside/vendor technical assistance.
c.Alert management to critical unresolved issues in a timely manner.
11.Maintain accurate electrical project documentation and submit to the acting project manager.
12.Obtain all electrical final pricing and deliveries and submit to the acting project manager..
13.Finalize and transmit all proposals on schedule.
14.Ultimately responsible for the technical quality and commercial success of any assigned electrical work or project.
15.Understands customer electrical specifications and overall objective of the project.
16.Establish and execute the time-line for the electrical scope of work per the customer requirements.
17.Adhere to the project budget.
18.Capable of communicating to all divisions (Electrical, Mechanical, Field Service), in the company, and ensuring their understanding of the tasks at hand.
19.Interface with and provide support to all operational departments including Sales, Service and Applications.
20.Address all of the customer electrical concerns and requirements.
21.Regular reporting of project progress and status to the acting Hirata Project manager and customer as required.
22.Manage electrical supplier and subcontractors relations on the project.
23.Participate on all the meetings regarding the project execution and progress.
24.Responsible for the electrical design, manufacturing, assembly, debug, try-out, run-off, teardown, shipment, installation, start-up, and buyoff for all assigned projects.
25.Responsible for the delivery of all the as built electrical drawings, manuals, and documentation to the acting project manager.
26.Conduct electrical project meetings.
27.Serve as the Project Engineer on projects as needed.
Required Skills:
1. A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent controls experience.
2. 5+ years experience designing assembly machines.
3. 5+ years working for a company that sells assembly machines.
Required Skills Continued
1. Must have 5+ years experience with AutoCAD.
2. Must have 5+ years of PLC programming and troubleshooting experience on Siemens, AB, Mitsubishi.
3. Must have 5+ years of HMI programming experience
4. Must have 5+ years of Network experience Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet, Ethercat, Modbus, Modbus+.
5. Must be experienced in designing systems around power and free conveyance, dials, indexing tables, walking beams and other forms of transport.
6. Must have a wide variety of experience with different types of assembly machines (fastening, pick/place, testing, feeding).
7. Must project a professional appearance and attitude.
8. Must have good customer relation skills.
9. Must possess superior organizational skills.
10.Good communicator-presentation and technical writing skills.
