Structural Engineer / Project Manager
Company is currently seeking a licensed professional Civil Engineer to join their Transportation Design Team in Kansas City, MO. Qualified candidates must have 5 or more years of experience in the design and detailing of highway bridges, retaining walls and other transportation related structures.
Essential Job Functions of the Transportation Structural Engineer.
Project Management
* Manage design, plan preparation and construction services for the assigned projects efficiently and responsibly.
* Maintain effective and positive client relationships through regular contact.
* Understand clients' needs and design requirements.
* Manage project scope, fee and schedule and address requests for additional work.
* Participate in the implementation and improvement of design standards.
* Prepare for and attend progress meetings on projects as required.
Design and Plan Production
* Design and direct plan preparation activities for highway structures including reinforced concrete, pre-stressed concrete and/or steel bridges.
* Design retaining walls, drainage structures and other transportation related structures.
* Analyze structure needs and develop type, size and location recommendations.
* Ensure conformance to design standards.
* Verify that quality control procedures are met and documented.
Staff Management
* Maintain effective communication with all levels of staff and demonstrate leadership abilities with project team.
* Manage and direct the activities of junior engineers and technical staff to achieve project goals and deadlines.
* Verify that designs and plans are completed in conformance to design requirements, on-time and in a quality fashion.
* Manage assigned work load and schedule and forecast future resource needs.
* Communicate with team leader in advance when the schedule or deadlines change.
Client Relations
* Maintain client and sub-consultant relationships to understand and identify current and future needs.
* Participate in business development activities, proposal preparation and interview presentations.
Requirements and Qualifications:
* Must have a BS or a MS in Civil Engineering and 5 or more years of experience in structural engineering
* Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Kansas or Missouri, or ability to obtain within 6 months
* Proficiency with MicroStation desirable
* Experience with project management
* Self-starter with strong problem solving skills
* Strong teamwork and communication skills
* Excellent work ethic and a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles

2. 5 to 20 years of consulting engineering experience in the design and detailing of highway bridges, retaining walls and other transportation related structures.
3. Licensed Professional Engineer.
