Job Description
ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF HIM
DESCRIPTION
Under the immediate direction of the Director of HIM, the Assistant Director HIM Revenue Cycle is responsible for the coordination and management of coding and documentation capture for compliant revenue capture. This position will work closely with HIM operations, physicians, ancillary departments, patient accounting, senior management and the compliance officer to ensure optimal compliance and efficiencies in the billing cycle process to maintain national standards. In this role, responsibilities include the monitoring and assurance of timely and accurate coding of all inpatient and outpatient accounts under the purview of the Health Information Management Department. This individual is responsible for insuring that staff are provided with training and education and are proficient in their respective areas. This position is a member of the Epic HIM team bringing operational experience as well as technical knowledge to build and support the Epic system. This position represents HIM Revenue Cycle operations in communication with HIS and other Epic department project leaders.
In addition, the Assistant Director of HIM Revenue Cycle will work with the HIM Leadership Team to build a cohesive department and meet established departmental performance measures. S/He will be responsible for independent judgment / action in administrative matters and the development, implementation and maintenance of section policies and procedures to insure effective operations and compliance with existing standards, coding guidelines and other regulatory agencies. S/He will provide assistance in developing the budget and long range departmental plans. In addition, the position has responsibility for special projects as assigned by the Director and will assume the responsibilities for the Department in the absence of the Director and Assistant Director of Operations
Education: Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management or other related healthcare field preferred. Associates Degree in Health Information Management with equitable experience will be considered.
Experience: Minimum 3 years of progressive coding supervisory experience in a Health Information Management Department. 1-2 years working on projects related to Documentation Improvement. Must have knowledge of, or be willing to learn the requirements for Cancer Registry.
Credentials: current CCS required, RHIA/RHIT/RN preferred. EPIC certification.
Skills: Must have strong managerial, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to motivate and develop the staff. Experience with Excel and other Microsoft products required. Must have a strong understanding of financial reimbursement systems and federal and regulatory agency requirements (CMS, JCAHO, OIG and others).
