Job Description:
The Division of Nature Preserves is seeking a qualified and committed individual as a Nature Preserves Steward for SE Indiana. The position performs a variety of duties including assisting a nature preserves Ecologist with property management (includes trail maintenance, mowing, brush and tree removal, signs, boundaries, trash abatement, etc.) and habitat restoration (vegetation management including invasives control, herbicide application, mechanical removal). Incumbent will participate in preparing for prescribed fire and in implementing wildland prescribed fire. The incumbent must demonstrate good organization and safety practices. This is an intermittent position, working up to 180 days in a calendar year, at a pay rate of $10.75/hour.
Preferred Experience:
Valid high school diploma or GED; or one (1) year of work experience.
Valid driver’s license
Additional Comments:
The position is based out of Jackson-Washington State Forest but work may be performed at nature preserves across southeast Indiana. Work sometimes includes long hours at remote nature preserves and sometimes working alone. Incumbent must be able to work in sometimes difficult outdoor conditions including weather, insects, and plant allergens. Incumbent should enjoy outdoors work, have an interest in parks maintenance, biology, and have some background in plant identification.
