Quality Inspector
Location: Fremont/ Milpitas, CA
Pay Rate: Ranging from $14.00/hr-$18.00/hr
Hours: Mon-Fri (8:00AM-5:00PM)
Detailed Description:
Work is guided by diverse procedures, processes and/or technical methods of varying complexity. Incumbents have some freedom to select best methods and procedures to follow to complete assignments. Tasks are complex in nature where considerable judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making recommendations. Decisions/actions may have an impact beyond the job’s immediate work unit or team. Works under general Supervision. Situations not covered by standard processes, procedures and methods are referred to manager or higher level. May provide functional guidance to others performing similar work. May demonstrate work methods to new employees. Deals directly with immediate supervisor, co-workers and team members; engages in exchanges of factual information and provides some explanation in a problem solving capacity; interactions with external contacts, if applicable, require exchanging factual information and providing some explanation.
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:
Provides expertise in the areas of equipment set up for material inspection and systems transactions. Trains new inspectors on equipment and processes. Provides leadership and advice to less experienced inspectors. Directs workload appropriately. Inspects incoming mechanical components received from suppliers to ensure conformance with engineering product/component specifications. Uses inspection equipment such as eye loops, magnification lenses, pin gauges, micrometer, surface plate and various hand tools to verify parts meet drawing or blueprint specs and visual and cosmetic specs and tolerances. Assures visual integrity of incoming material. Conducts in-process and finished product inspections checking for workmanship, dimensional specs, tolerances and usability from a functional standpoint. Assures visual integrity of products. Initiates problem investigation requests on internal databases for any component or product that needs engineering investigation. Initiates and processes component or product purges including pulling product from stock, finished goods or manufacturing areas. Provides Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other data reporting. Processes Non-conforming material including coordinating and sending material back to the supplier.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies:
Ability to effectively communicate with a variety of internal and external customers.
Enters data into Final Inspection Reports (FIRs) using a personal computer and/or writing data into the report format. The Inspector SPC interfaces with other employees to locate data by phone, email, and by personal interaction.
Preferably the incumbent has some understanding of machining processes, reading drawings and inspection techniques.
Ability to analyze equipment and systems, troubleshoot problems.
Knowledge of personal computers and Windows applications.
Knowledge of quality standards.
Physical Demands:
Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc. Must wear personal protective equipment such as hearing protections, safety glass
Must have 20/20 vision with or without corrective lenses.
Duties require extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.
Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions, sitting in confined workspaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials. Duties may require periodic heavy manual effort including lifting objects over 50 pounds.
Typical Experience:
Four to five years’ relevant experience.
Typical Education:
Additional courses after high school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Hardware Inspection Instructions
• Confirm proper presence and installation of helicoils, keenserts and pins by using poke-yoke process and measurement devices and fixtures on aluminum, stainless steel, copper, casting, plastic and bronze parts
• Confirm no tangs, no missing/damaged helicoils and keenserts using visual inspection and flashlight
• Perform cosmetic visual inspection of components
• Confirm process sheets are properly filled out
• Perform data entry of all jobs inspected into a log
• Able to use carts (metro, push, and hydraulic)
• Able to wear PPE (safety glasses, ear protection and steel toe shoes) and respiratory protection if required
• 20/20 vision aided or un-aided required
• Must have mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
• Able to read and understand prints and drawings
• Able to read and understand English
• Understanding of ISO 9001:2008 requirements a plus
• Be able to stand at least 8 hours
• Be able to lift at least 50lbs
