Our company's manufacturing plant in Lincoln, Illinois has an immediate opening for a Senior Buyer. The Senior Buyer reports to the purchasing manager and is a member of the plant supply chain team.
The plant in Lincoln, Illinois is a part of our company's Electrical Products Group and manufactures power distribution devices for the Residential and Wiring Devices Division of the company. These devices include load centers, metering devices and air conditioning disconnects. Manufacturing processes supported by the supply chain team include metal fabrication, powder coating paint and assembly.
The Senior Buyer is responsible for managing the supply of key commodities under the direction of the purchasing manager. They will apply purchasing practices to assigned commodity management, ensuring products meet quality, delivery and specification requirements at the lowest possible cost. This role is also responsible for analysis of trends, maintenance of systems and records, and placement and expediting of orders as needed to meet customer and production needs is also required.
Additional responsibilities:
- Plans inventory levels and procurement of an assigned group of production materials. Executes ECNs.
- Purchases assigned non-inventory items and services.
- Interviews and negotiates with current and potential vendors on pricing, delivery, terms, stocking programs and other required processes.
- Performs necessary follow-up and expedigint activities. assures a timely and effective flow of material into the plant, keeping downtime to a minimum. Keeps plant inventories of parts at established levels.
- Solicits and analyzes quotations for goods and services. Recommends the awarding of purchases and contracts based on information received. Assures quality parts at the lower possible prices.
- Adheres to all corporate EHS requirements and guidelines when making supplier decisions. Gathers information necessary to the decision making process when considering suppliers, according to EHS requirements.
- Conducts negotiations with vendors involving replacement of materials that do not conform to our specifications.
- Conducts cost reduction activities for assigned commodities and assists other department in their cost reduction activities.
- Forecasts market trends of assigned commodities affecting material and service availability and costs.
- Adheres to our company's Code of Ethics.
Basic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements)
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
- Minimum 3 years of purchasing experience
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in supply chain or business from an accredited institution
- Purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment with steel purchasing experience
- Knowledge of MAPICS and MRP systems
